First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto empowers schools with water tanks on World Water Day

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto celebrated World Water Day 2024 at Kisaju Primary School in Kajiado County, where she donated water harvesting tanks to 26 schools in Kajiado West Constituency to increase their water storage capacity.

The First Lady has also pledged to improve the welfare of learners by working with leaders and partners to ensure that schools have sufficient clean drinking water.

This will include the provision of water tanks, boreholes, wells and water pans. The First Lady stressed the importance of access to safe water in educational settings, as it has a direct impact on students’ health, hygiene and academic performance.

By providing water tanks to schools, learners will be relieved of the burden of water scarcity and contribute to retention and transition, in line with the government’s 100% transition policy.

The ceremony at Kisaju Primary School represented a collaborative effort by stakeholders to address water-related challenges and promote sustainable development in Kajiado County.

Other leaders in attendance included Hon. George Risa Sunkuyia, Member of Parliament for Kajiado West Constituency and Hon. Leah Sankaire, County Assembly Member for Kajiado County.
