Mama Rachel Ruto attends memorial service for 11 Kenyatta University students

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto joined family members, the Kenyatta University community and stakeholders in the education sector to mourn 11 students from the Department of Health Management and Informatics at Kenyatta University who passed away following a road accident in Maungu, Taita Taveta County.

Mama Rachel Ruto eulogised the 11 students as future leaders the nation had lost who would have made an impact in various spheres of life and brought pride and joy to their families and communities.

“We mourn the loss of these young souls and we are heartbroken because we have lost future leaders in various walks of life. They were shining examples to their peers and the pride and joy of their families and communities,” she said.

She urged the nation to continue to pray for the full recovery of the 47 students who were injured and are currently recuperating.

The First Lady also urged all motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads at all times and to be more vigilant and courteous to ensure the safety of all road users.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education; Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education; and Vice Chancellors and Chairpersons of University Councils from various private and public universities in Kenya.
