Mama Rachel Ruto distributes food to 3,000 families in Marigat, Baringo County

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto on Thursday led the distribution of food to over 3,000 families in Marigat, Baringo County.

The initiative, organised by the Faith Diplomacy Directorate of MaMa Doing Good, is part of the ongoing ‘Faith in Action Week’ aimed at promoting unity and addressing challenges faced by communities in the region.

Faith in Action brings together leaders from six counties bordering the Kerio Valley: Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu and Laikipia. Working in partnership with the national and county governments, this collective effort aims to restore normalcy and alleviate the hardships faced by communities in the region.

During the distribution event, Mama Rachel Ruto emphasised the importance of peace as a prerequisite for development in the six targeted counties. She highlighted that women and children often bear the brunt of insecurity along the Kerio Valley.

In addition, the region has been severely affected by an unprecedented drought, experiencing four consecutive seasons without rainfall – the most severe in the last four decades.

The Faith in Action Week initiative serves as a catalyst for change, highlighting the power of collaboration between government agencies, faith-based organisations and local communities.

By providing essential food to vulnerable families, Mama Rachel Ruto and the leaders involved are demonstrating their unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those affected by insecurity and drought in the Kerio Valley.

As Faith in Action Week progresses, collective actions of participants offer hope for a brighter future for communities in the region and beyond. The initiative will culminate in a regional interfaith prayer meeting on Saturday 13 May.

Other leaders present were Dr. Emmy Cheboi, the spouse of Baringo County Governor, Charles Kamuren, Member of Parliament Baringo South, Eng. Felix Maiyo, Deputy Governor Baringo County; and Vincent Kemboi, Speaker of Baringo County Assembly.

Their presence underscored the collective commitment to addressing the challenges facing the region and promoting peace and prosperity.
