First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has called for an increase in the funds allocated to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), citing the economic impact of the fund under the patronage of County Members of Parliament, popularly known as Women Representatives.

The First Lady was speaking at Maasai Technical Training Institute (MTTI), in Kajiado County, where she presided over the distribution of income-generating tools and equipment worth over Ksh. 19 million. The event was organised by Hon. Leah Sankaire, the County Member of Parliament for Kajiado County.

Hon. Aisha Jumwa, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, urged legislators to entrench budgetary allocations to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) as a percentage of the national budget. She cited the fund as critical to grassroots development,especially for women, youth, and people with disabilities who are sometimes left out of commercial funding instruments.

Hon. Leah Sankaire, the County Member of Parliament for Kajiado County promised to further use the fund to commercialise indegious talents in the county, especially in beadwork, asking the Tourism Fund to connect the women groups to local and export markets.

Other leaders present in the event included Hon. Memusi Kanchory, Member of Parliament Kajiado Central; Hon. Betty Maina, County Member of Parliament, Muranga County; Hon. Jane Kagiri, County Member of Parliament, Laikipia County; and Hon. Dorice Donya Aburi, County Member of Parliament, Kisii County.
