Mama Rachel Ruto donates food to 4,000 families in Nairobi’s Korogocho slums

The First Lady of Kenya Mama Rachel Ruto on Wednesday led a food donation drive to over 4,000 needy families in Korogocho slums, Nairobi.

The food donation drive comes as the effects of climate change ravages families and livelihoods.

Speaking during the donation drive, Mama Rachel Ruto emphasised the need for collective efforts to ensure that those who are most vulnerable in the communities are supported.

“It is imperative that we take concerted and collaborative action to confront the food crisis that has been brought about by the effects of climate change. Our collective efforts as a nation must be directed towards supporting and empowering the most vulnerable among us.

By donating food, sharing knowledge, and embracing sustainable practices, we can foster adaptation and resilience in the face of a changing climate and secure a better future for both ourselves and future generations,” Mama Rachel Ruto said.

The beneficiaries were drawn from nine villages in consultation with the Nyumba Kumi leadership and Provide International.

The food donation drive was supported, among others, by the Governor of Nairobi, Johnstone Sakaja, Spread Truth Africa, Bidco Africa, and Prime Bank.

The Mama Doing Good Organization under the Office of the First Lady, further donated Ksh. 250,000 to Kombo Green Solutions, a youth-driven community-based organisation engaging in environmental conservation.
